Overwhelming support for NCA

By
From page A10 | March 10, 2013 |

We are pleased that the Yolo County supervisors voted to support the permanent protection of federal public lands in the Berryessa Snow Mountain Region. (This applies only to federal lands and specifically does not impact private lands.) Thank you, Supervisors Don Saylor, Jim Provenza and Mike McGowan!

During the past two years, Tuleyome and our sister organizations have worked hard to build support for this proposal. We are thrilled that the cities of Winters, Davis, West Sacramento, Clearlake, Calistoga, St. Helena, as well as Napa and Lake counties have all voted unanimously to support the National Conservation Area, and we are happy that Yolo County is now supportive.

There are also more than 200 businesses; recreational organizations made up of mountain bikers, off-highway vehicle users, horse riders, hunters and anglers; conservation organizations including Sierra Club, Yolo Audubon and California Wilderness Coalition; and more htan 2,000 individuals who have signed on to support this effort.

As seen in other National Conservation Areas, it will be good for the land, better manage the impacts of recreation, and provide economic opportunities for our local economies.

I look forward to reintroduction of this bill by Congressmen Mike Thompson and John Garamendi soon.
